About The Position

McCain Foods (Canada) has an immediate opening for a Training Manager at our Carberry, Manitoba Food Processing Plant. Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for the oversite of all aspects of factory-related employee training including: qualification processes, trainer development, budgeting, planning, coordination, and record keeping. The Training Manager serves as a coach and mentor to the Training Department and other functional managers who deliver training.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role within plant operations
  • Knowledge of training and development practices and methods, continues curriculum development including the design, revisions, and implementation of instructional materials for the variety of technical and ownership skills
  • Skills and ability to facilitate learning through a combination of online, classroom, hands-on, virtual and on-the-job training
  • Strong presentation, group facilitation and public speaking skills, confidence in influencing, consulting and partnering with various audiences
  • Ability to communicate with individuals across various organizational levels, including written and verbal communications
  • Ability to lead a team of trainers and Subject Matter Experts
  • Ability to earn the respect, acceptance and trust of peers, subordinates and superiors
  • Ability to collaborate within the plant and cross-plant with fellow learning leaders
  • Proficient in MS Office - Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word
  • Proficient with learning tools such as LMS, and eLearning authoring tools
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours to support the needs of 24-hour operation

Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary education in Adult Education, Business, or related field, or an equivalent amount of related experience is preferred
  • Completed learning in adult education and/or willing to complete within first 18 months in role

Responsibilities

  • Formulate plans and objectives for departmental operations.
  • Maintain high product quality that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Ensure that adequate training in areas of management skills are provided for Shift Supervisors.
  • Direct and consult with Supervisors on all process attributes, including time and temperature for equipment set up, raw product blends for color, defects and solids, personnel staffing, equipment capability and line capacity.
  • Responsible for investigation and follow up of all quality complaints, possible product problems (including product safety), sanitation inspection problems, and cost variance problems.
  • Responsible for all preparation, distribution, follow up and problem investigation on factory and corporate reports.
  • Coordinate plant activities to obtain maximum efficiency for total facility.
  • Create an environment that encourages Safety in your department.
  • As a member of the leadership team, your participation in the continuous improvement process is expected. This includes taking an active role in process improvement initiatives, employee training, utilization of SPC for process improvement and upgrading your current skill base.
  • Must be capable of revising and updating measurement requirements and procedures.
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to handle problems independently – proactive.
  • Must be able to handle change, promote positive and creative work environments.
  • Must have knowledge and skills with personnel development.
  • Must possess management skills, including time management, cost management and leadership skills; continuous cost improvement (effective capital improvements), process optimization, and factory-to-factory consistencies (cross company coordination and communication).
  • Must take on responsibilities to expand scope of job as necessary.
