About The Position

The instructor must be able to teach new and incumbent employees methods for skillfully and safely learning welding theory and application in various areas including Oxy-Fuel Cutting (OFC), Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Carbon Arc Gouging (CAG), Submerged Arc Welding (SAW), Welding Metallurgy, Shop Math, and Welding/Shop Safety. A strong emphasis is placed on safety, requiring the proper use of PPE. The role involves developing and planning training programs, delivering instruction, evaluating trainee progress, and providing administrative and operational support.

Requirements

  • Three to five years’ experience in the Welding Industry.
  • Proficient in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SAW welding processes.
  • Ability to teach other curriculum as it pertains to HFAB on an as needed basis.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional methods and techniques for assisting new and incumbent employees.
  • Be flexible and receptive to change.
  • Communicate ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.
  • Maintain and improve professional skills and knowledge.
  • Organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities and adapt to periodic hectic workloads.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective instructor.
  • Must possess an AWS Certified Welding Educator OR have the ability to get this certification within one year of being hired.

  • Fit 1 AND Weld 1 classification or any dual classification of Fit/Weld (i.e Fit 1/Weld 2, Weld 1/ Fit 3)

Responsibilities

  • Teach new and incumbent employees welding theory and application in OFC, SMAW, GMAW, CAG, SAW, Welding Metallurgy, Shop Math, and Welding/Shop Safety.
  • Confer with management and supervisors to understand training needs.
  • Coordinate training schedules with hiring and training demands.
  • Formulate teaching outlines and determine instructional methods (individual, group, lectures, demonstrations).
  • Select and utilize teaching aids such as handbooks, models, and visual aids.
  • Develop strong relationships with production and administration to create course materials and gather feedback.
  • Teach classes related to all aspects of welding concerning AWS D1.1/ABS/HFAB QMS requirements.
  • Provide instructional methodology that leads to student success.
  • Safely and effectively operate a wide range of welding/fitting tools and equipment.
  • Fabricate and construct mock-ups.
  • Test trainees to measure progress and evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Report on the progress of employees during training.
  • Maintain trainee testing records.
  • Oversee trainees and welders during qualification tests.
  • Assist the Quality Department with running PQR/WPS tests.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Perform overtime as required.
  • Be flexible to shift changes.
