About The Position

The School of Education’s Rehabilitation Research and Training Center at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is seeking a skilled and experienced professional for a full-time, twelve-month, grant-funded term faculty position as a Training and Technical Assistance Associate with the Regional Autism and Behavior Technical Assistance Network (RABTAN). This role will provide regional training, coaching, consultation, and technical assistance to classrooms and school divisions across two regions in Virginia. The primary focus is to support school personnel in implementing classwide positive behavior supports for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other disabilities, applying behavioral assessments, and developing effective positive behavior interventions. The position involves providing positive behavior support-focused coaching and consultation, facilitating professional learning and training initiatives, and collaborating with school teams to strengthen local capacity. It also includes developing and delivering targeted professional development through various formats and strategically planning project objectives for measurable outcomes, with a significant commitment to personnel preparation and field training. This is a grant-funded position.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
  • Master’s degree in education, psychology, behavior analysis, or a related field and equivalent training.
  • Extensive knowledge of evidence-based practices used with children and adolescents with disabilities who have interfering behaviors.
  • Extensive knowledge of positive behavior supports used with children and adolescents with disabilities who have interfering behaviors.
  • Prior experience in delivering systematic personnel training and technical assistance within a public school setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel regionally and overnight.

Nice To Haves

  • Holds active BCBA® certification and state licensure, as well as in good standing, with national and state boards.
  • Prior experience in teaching or administration in public school systems.
  • Prior experience developing and implementing live and online training and education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regional training, coaching, consultation, and technical assistance to classrooms and school divisions.
  • Support school personnel in implementing classwide positive behavior supports for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other disabilities.
  • Apply behavioral assessments within public school settings.
  • Develop feasible, effective positive behavior interventions that improve student outcomes.
  • Provide positive behavior support-focused coaching and consultation to educational professionals.
  • Facilitate regionally based professional learning and training initiatives.
  • Collaborate with school teams to strengthen local capacity and improve continuum options for students with disabilities who have intensive support needs.
  • Develop and deliver targeted professional development through in-person and online formats.
  • Strategically plan and implement project objectives to achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Commit to personnel preparation and field training.
  • Provide regional training and technical assistance to division leaders and public school personnel on research-based practices.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching in behavior assessment and intervention within school settings.
  • Develop and facilitate online and in-person training opportunities.
  • Create coursework to support statewide learning on critical topics.
  • Work closely with public schools and divisions to build capacity and improve services for students with ASD across all age groups.
  • Promote and support the implementation of evidence-based practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the state to design and deliver targeted training.
  • Develop resources that address evolving needs.
  • Contribute to data collection and research development efforts.
  • Prepare and share training materials.
  • Provide consultative and coaching support to school personnel on behavior analysis practices.
  • Maintain consistent contact with supervisors, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Complete data collection and reporting requirements on time.
  • Respond promptly to information requests.
  • Take on additional projects as needed to support organizational goals.
