About The Position

Performs highly complex training and development work. Work involves coordinating, organizing, and conducting training sessions using a variety of training methods; and providing guidance to others. Works under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Major course work in Education, a Behavioral Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred. Each year of experience as described below in excess of the required four years may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis.
  • Four years full-time, wage-earning training, teaching, staff development, or correctional custody experience.
  • Knowledge of correctional facilities operations.
  • Knowledge of critical incident care methods, techniques, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of group process, group dynamics, and classroom management.
  • Knowledge of correctional methods, techniques, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill to assess and evaluate training effectiveness.
  • Skill to develop instructional materials and utilize instructional aids.
  • Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports.
  • Skill to conduct training.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent to include word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software programs.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 15-44 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
  • Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in developing or conducting training programs preferred.
  • Crisis intervention or counseling experience preferred.
  • Correctional custody experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and analyzes training needs in the Safe Prisons and Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Programs; formulates and develops plans and procedures to meet specific training on awareness and prevention of prison violence, sexual abuse, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and extortion; develops and supports peer education; researches, develops, and evaluates training programs and materials; and recommends modifications as appropriate.
  • Develops and prepares training curricula and course outlines; selects and develops instructional methods, training aids, manuals, and other materials; plans, designs, and develops methods for the assessment and evaluation of training effectiveness; and maintains training database information and records.
  • Develops procedures for the inmate peer education program; coordinates and conducts training to include unit victim representatives and specialized investigation training; and assists in conducting training for other Safe Prisons and PREA programs.
  • Provides liaison with management, regional staff, unit staff, other departments of the agency, other agencies, and community organizations; and responds to inquiries regarding Safe Prisons and PREA Programs training.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
