About The Position

This position involves essential job functions in Assembly, Welding, and Painting. The Trainee will be responsible for inspecting parts, assembling cranes and sub-assemblies, maintaining production flow, and ensuring quality standards are met. This includes working from shop orders, connecting and adjusting hydraulic and air systems, mounting power components, and recording logbook entries. The role also requires detecting and reporting defective materials or faulty operations, repairing or replacing defective parts, and performing torque operations. In welding, the Trainee will preheat and postheat parts, perform cosmetic welding, read and interpret documents, use gas heating and burning equipment, and maintain weld qualifications. For painting, responsibilities include operating steam equipment, applying body putty, using an orbital sander, preparing units with masking, and ensuring parts are clean before painting.

Ability to perform varied duties involving hydraulic controls, pumps, rams, solenoids, valves, gauges, piping, hoses, air vacuum tanks, engines, gear boxes, axles, and other power components.
Ability to record logbook entries and maintain records.
Ability to detect and report defective materials, faulty operation, and unusual conditions.
Ability to repair or replace defective materials.
Ability to perform and verify torque operations.
Ability to preheat and/or post heat parts using proper procedures and equipment.
Ability to demonstrate a high degree of cosmetic acceptability in welding operations.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to use gas heating and burning equipment to cut and/or fit parts.
Ability to maintain weld qualifications.
Ability to operate steam equipment.
Ability to apply body putty using proper techniques.
Ability to operate orbital sander.
Ability to prepare units and parts using masking tape, caps, plugs, plastic, etc.
Ability to ensure parts and units are free and clean of grease, oil and/or any other containment.

Responsibilities

Inspect parts for proper form, fit and function.
Assemble cranes and crane sub-assemblies for standard products in support of and meeting production schedules.
Ensure bearings, seals and hydraulics fit and operate according to specifications.
Operate and check sub-assemblies.
Assist in maintaining the flow of work through department.
Ensure production specifications and quality standards are met at all levels of assembly.
Work from shop orders, specifications, and other data or instructions to perform assigned operations.
Varied duties may involve connection, adjustment and replacement of hydraulic controls, pumps, rams, solenoids, valves, gauges, piping, hoses and other system elements.
The installation and connection of air vacuum tanks, hoses, tubing and other system components.
The mounting, hookup and connection of engines, gear boxes, axles and other power components and units.
Record logbook entries and maintain records for log and critical data, serial numbers, models, brands and other pertinent information.
Detect and report defective materials, faulty operation, and unusual conditions to supervisor.
Repair or replace defective materials as required.
Perform and verify torque operations; record in log.
Preheating and/or post heating of parts using proper preheating procedures and the use of temp sticks as well as inter-pass temperatures, as well as using required and furnished electrical and/or gas equipment and following prescribed or standard practices.
Demonstrate a high degree of cosmetic acceptability in all welding operations.
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Utilization of gas heating and burning equipment to cut and/or fit parts.
Detection and reporting of defective material, faulty operations and unusual conditions to proper supervision and quality personnel.
Maintain weld qualifications by using the process at least once in a six-month period.
Operate steam equipment.
Apply body putty using proper techniques.
Operate orbital sander to prepare units, parts and/or any sub-straight material prior to finish.
Prepare units and parts by using masking tape, caps, plugs, plastic, etc. when needed to protect areas from coming in contact with paint.
Ensure all parts and units are free and clean of grease, oil and/or any other containment that may jeopardize paint integrity.
