About The Position

This is an entry-level opportunity to launch a career in environmental safety as a Trainee Asbestos Analyst. The role involves identifying and monitoring asbestos in buildings to ensure safety. The company, SOCOTEC, is expanding its team and offers comprehensive training, leading to a P403 qualification from the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS). The trainee will work with prestigious clients in sectors like Defence, infrastructure, service, retail, and heritage. The training program is intensive, lasting 3 months, and covers site and office-based learning about asbestos air monitoring, including testing air quality before, during, and after work, reporting concerns, and compiling final reports.

Requirements

Team player with the ability to work independently as you gain confidence in asbestos air monitoring.
Interest in working in varied site environments.
Keen eye for detail and an interest in analytical work, particularly using microscopes.
Strong time management and organisational skills.
Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
A full manual UK driving licence is required, as this role involves regular travel to client sites across the region.

Responsibilities

Understand how to test the air in buildings to check for asbestos particles and ensure it's safe for people to be there.
Check the level of airborne fibres before starting any work.
Test for leaks while work is happening to make sure safety measures are working.
Carry out air testing after the work to confirm it's safe to remove safety controls and use the area again.
Report any health and safety concerns to the client and stop work right away if needed.
Put together a final report with all project details, including waste documents, for the building’s safety file.
