Direct and coordinate the safe movement of railroad traffic on a specified territory from a central and/or regional location. This role ensures compliance with all railroad rules, procedures, and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). The Train Dispatcher will direct and coordinate railroad traffic, issue permits and authorities, monitor all rail movements and computerized records of all activities. They must know their assigned territory and stay informed of changes, maintain familiarity with scheduled trains, and communicate with personnel regarding conditions affecting train movement. The position involves coordinating train movement according to the operating plan and customer needs, monitoring train and track movements, and remotely controlling track switches and traffic signals. Additionally, they will report alleged violations of operating rules and any irregularities, and plan for the smooth movement of priority trains, hazardous material shipments, and meets/passes to avoid delays. Coordination with the Engineering Department and miscellaneous activities as assigned by the manager are also part of the role.
