Train Crew - Coffeyville, KS

Union Pacific•Coffeyville, KS

About The Position

Union Pacific Train Crew employees provide the safe and timely movement of customers’ freight. Previous railroad experience is not required because the company provides training. The initial training class lasts 14 weeks and includes classroom and on-the-job instruction; attendance throughout the class and successful completion of all exams are required for continued employment. After training, employees work in road or yard service based on their seniority territory and date. Road service may involve travel between locations and staying away from the home terminal; Union Pacific provides lodging in some circumstances. Yard and local service crews classify rail cars from inbound trains and build outbound trains, working with an engineer or by remote control. Employees may be assigned to cover other locations within their seniority area, may be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and should expect variable hours and irregular days off. Temporary furloughs are possible based on business volumes. The position requires compliance with railroad safety, operational, and Federal Railroad Administration rules. Employees are subject to drug and alcohol testing. The role involves outdoor work in all weather, physical activity, and possible travel that keeps employees away from their home terminal for a day or more. Employees are asked to commit to their craft and work location for at least two years; changes to seniority locations or crafts depend on business needs and may not be approved. The posting lists expected earnings of approximately $80,000 in the initial year, with potential for higher earnings as employees advance. It describes medical insurance, prescription coverage, vision, dental, life, and disability insurance, as well as additional benefits and programs.
