About The Position

R. J. Corman Switching Company is seeking Train Crew Members in Hondo, Texas. The role supports safe train movement and freight-car switching, while maintaining compliance with safety requirements, customer practices, and facility standards. Employees work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically strenuous tasks.

Requirements

• Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures.
• Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures.
• Ability to operate a range of vehicles and machinery safely and responsibly.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to learn new skills.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical work in all weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, balance safely, and walk on uneven surfaces such as ballast.
• Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, and crouch.
• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
• Ability to push and pull with up to 150 pounds of force to throw a switch.

Nice To Haves

• Previous railroad or industrial switching experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate switches and brakes to move trains safely between tracks.
• Build trains by attaching and detaching freight cars, and inspect trains for rules compliance and order accuracy.
• Ensure working conditions are safe and required PPE is being used before work begins.
• Remain safety conscious and aware of other employees working on or around equipment.
• Safely operate company vehicles and other equipment in accordance with R. J. Corman and customer safety practices.
• Maintain positive customer relations through proper radio etiquette and face-to-face communication.
• Maintain good co-worker relations and foster a friendly, efficient “One team, one goal” work environment.
• Maintain the facility and equipment to R. J. Corman Look Good standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
