About The Position
Groot is seeking a safety-conscious Trailer Mechanic to join our team at our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Plainfield, IL. This role is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on trailers used in daily operations to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant equipment.
Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the workday
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Knowledge of air brake systems, electrical systems, and DOT requirements
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience as a trailer mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic preferred
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair trailers, including brakes, suspension, air systems, electrical wiring, lighting, doors, floors, frames, and landing gear
- Perform preventative maintenance and DOT inspections on trailers
- Complete necessary repairs identified through Daily Inspection Reports
- Power wash trailers and equipment as part of routine maintenance
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform on-site service as needed within the MRF
- Conduct safety checks to ensure trailers meet company and regulatory standards
- Accurately complete work orders and required documentation using maintenance software
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
