About The Position

Trailer Mechanics are to perform maintenance service in which the volume and quality of work is within the acceptably measured standards for Dayton Freight Lines. This role requires a fundamental understanding of repairing and rebuilding components on 48ft. and 53ft. dry van trailers. The position is in a professional, positive and people-centered work environment with modern facilities and clean, late model equipment.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Able to pass a drug screen.
  • Fundamental understanding of repairing and rebuilding components on 48ft. and 53ft. dry van trailers.
  • Ability to repair suspension and running gear components.
  • Ability to repair landing gear assembly and components.
  • Ability to repair wheel components and tires.
  • Ability to repair brake and air components.
  • Ability to repair electrical, lighting and wiring components.
  • Ability to repair rear frame and door components.
  • Ability to repair side, nose and roof components.
  • Ability to repair interior and floor components.
  • Ability to thoroughly perform Preventative Maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • High level of welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Ability to perform service calls.
  • Ability to wash and fuel equipment when necessary.
  • Ability to road test vehicles.
  • Consistently positive attitude, interacting courteously and professionally with fellow employees.
  • Pro-actively assists, guides and directs junior technicians.
  • Leading participant in the care and upkeep of the shop, the grounds and all equipment and tools.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe environment that complies to OSHA and company standards.
  • Proficient in recording all work and labor on a computer in the EMS system.
  • Ability to work with the Parts Department to assure that all necessary materials, parts, service and shop supplies are maintained at proper quantity levels.
  • Ability to work in compliance to EPA regulations as well as DOT and company safety requirements.
  • Ability to perform other maintenance duties or assignments when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Repairing and rebuilding components on 48ft. and 53ft. dry van trailers, including suspension and running gear, landing gear, wheel components and tires, brake and air components, electrical, lighting and wiring, rear frame and door, side, nose and roof, and interior and floor components.
  • Performing Preventative Maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • Maintaining a high level of welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Performing service calls.
  • Washing and fueling equipment when necessary.
  • Road testing vehicles to ensure quality repair services were performed.
  • Assisting, guiding and directing junior technicians.
  • Participating in the care and upkeep of the shop, grounds, equipment, and tools.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe environment that complies with OSHA and company standards.
  • Recording all work and labor on a computer in the EMS system.
  • Working with the Parts Department to ensure necessary materials, parts, service, and shop supplies are maintained at proper quantity levels.
