About The Position

Trailer Mechanics are to perform maintenance service in which the volume and quality of work is within the acceptably measured standards for Dayton Freight Lines. This role involves performing maintenance and repairs on various trailer components, conducting preventative maintenance inspections, and ensuring a high level of quality in all repair services.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Able to pass a drug screen.
  • Fundamental understanding of repairing and rebuilding components on 48ft. and 53ft. dry van trailers.
  • Ability to perform Preventative Maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • High level of welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Ability to perform service calls.
  • Ability to wash and fuel equipment.
  • Ability to road test vehicles.
  • Consistently positive attitude, interacting courteously and professionally with fellow employees.
  • Ability to assist, guide, and direct junior technicians.
  • Ability to participate in the care and upkeep of the shop, grounds, equipment, and tools.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe environment that complies with OSHA and company standards.
  • Proficiency in recording all work and labor on a computer in the EMS system.
  • Ability to work with the Parts Department to assure necessary materials, parts, service, and shop supplies are maintained.
  • Ability to work in compliance with EPA regulations as well as DOT and company safety requirements.
  • Ability to perform other maintenance duties or assignments when necessary.
  • Dependent upon having a CDL (for road testing).

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance service with acceptable volume and quality standards.
  • Repair and rebuild components on 48ft. and 53ft. dry van trailers, including suspension and running gear, landing gear, wheel components and tires, brake and air components, electrical/lighting/wiring, rear frame and doors, sides, nose, roof, and interior/floor components.
  • Thoroughly perform Preventative Maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • Maintain a high level of welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Perform service calls.
  • Wash and fuel equipment when necessary.
  • Road test vehicles to ensure quality repair services.
  • Assist, guide, and direct junior technicians.
  • Participate in the care and upkeep of the shop, grounds, equipment, and tools.
