About The Position

Under close supervision, performs road striping, including parking lots, production of signage, and inspection and sign placement to ensure the safety of County roadways and the orderly and predictable flow of traffic. Drives and operates paint truck and other various painting machines.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of manual on uniform traffic control devices.
  • Knowledge of ADA compliance with regards to parking lots and ADA pedestrian ramps.
  • Knowledge of Hamilton County traffic control program, County policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and County codes and regulations relating to traffic control and signage.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental principles of supervision and traffic control.
  • Knowledge of County road ways and work sites.
  • Knowledge and general understanding of traffic signals and traffic cabinets.
  • Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying applicable Federal and State rules and regulations, Hamilton County Policies and Procedures.
  • Skill in working with a variety of hand tools and other equipment such as shovels, post hole diggers, sledge hammers, etc.
  • Skill in working with a variety of vehicle traffic circumstances and appropriate means of control.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with the public, department staff, other County departments, and parts vendors.
  • Skill in effectively communicating in both oral and written form and in organizing and supervising equipment maintenance staff in the efficient and timely performance of quality work.
  • Equivalent of a high school diploma plus one (1) year of direct work experience in traffic control.
  • Minimum of a valid Class “B” CDL is required at time of hire.
  • Must complete the HC Defensive Driving course and/or or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided at the department level prior to operating a County-owned vehicle.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing for: post offer pre-employment; when there is reasonable cause; after an on-the-job accident or contributing to an accident; on a random basis; prior to return to duty after suspension; and as follow-up.

Responsibilities

  • Performs road and parking lot striping at various locations throughout the county.
  • Inspects condition of road signs and traffic signals.
  • Produces traffic signage.
  • Installs and repairs road signs for traffic control.
  • Performs striping line removal as required.
  • May provide assistance in traffic control to insure work zone safety.
  • Completes traffic control projects.
  • Operates and maintains striping equipment including paint truck, walk behind striping machine and trail vehicle during striping operations.
  • Maintains complete record of work orders.
  • Files related documentation.
  • Keeps a daily log of all work related activities.
  • Researches traffic regulations.
  • Performs maintenance on traffic control equipment.
  • Assists with traffic control for special activities including but not limited to the County Fair.
  • May provide assistance in snow removal and ice control and/or be called upon to work during emergency weather conditions during and after normal work hours.
  • Works around all types of moving equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
