About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting with operations and maintenance of the City’s flood protection systems, for performing inspection duties primarily for the Street Division, and assisting the Stormwater Division with the inflow and infiltration program. Also performs duties for other Public Works Divisions as needed.

Requirements

  • Two years post-secondary education in the field of Engineering Technology or a closely related field or two (2) years’ experience in a related field.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Missouri driver’s license.
  • Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and maintain a valid Class “B” or better CDL with air brake endorsement.
  • Knowledge of roadway construction methods and practices.
  • Knowledge of general site development construction activities.
  • Knowledge in use and skill in operating heavy equipment.
  • Principles and practices of flood protection systems (floodwalls and levees), sanitary sewer and stormwater management systems, and their operation and maintenance.
  • Skill in mathematics.
  • Skill in record keeping.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting plans.
  • Skill in oral and written communication, including the ability to print or write manually on appropriate equipment.
  • Knowledge of the use of basic computer functions.
  • Knowledge and ability to use of Microsoft Office programs, such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects roadway construction sites for compliance with City standards, specifications, and plans.
  • Assists with winter weather duties, including pretreatment of streets and snow removal.
  • Inspects City street repair work performed by contractors.
  • Includes follow-up communications with contractors and developers.
  • Problem solves construction related issues in the field.
  • Assists with inflow and infiltration program management and field inspections.
  • Coordinates closely with the Alliance Water Resources staff and contractors, for the inflow and infiltration program.
  • Coordinates closely with the Public Works Engineer for operations and maintenance of the City’s flood protection systems, including assisting with manning the pump stations during river flooding.
  • Reads and interprets project plans.
  • Maintains records of inspections.
  • Investigates complaints for roadways.
  • Performs material testing.
  • Assists other divisions as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
