About The Position

A Traffic Support Specialist at the Port of Seattle supports safe and efficient traffic flow throughout port facilities. This active, outdoor role requires standing and walking for extended periods, working in all weather conditions, directing traffic in busy areas and maintaining professionalism in fast-paced environments. As a Traffic Support Specialist, you will provide support to Police Officers with traffic control on the airport drives, performing a variety of duties in support of ground transportation operations at SEA (Seattle Tacoma International Airport). You will assist in providing the safe and convenient movement of pedestrian and vehicle traffic within assigned areas of the exterior of the terminal building where vehicle approach and departure routes are located. You will provide directional and informational assistance to the public concerning the use of airport transportation services and related ground transportation support facilities. You will provide directional and informational assistance to the public concerning areas within the airport, as well as the surrounding local areas of SEA. You will patrol assigned areas of responsibility and monitor roadway operating and safety conditions, and vehicle and crowd activity. You will initiate requests to Police Officers for crowd and vehicle control as required.

Requirements

  • One year of experience working in direct contact with the general public.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of operating procedures related to security, pedestrian, and vehicular safety.
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations pertaining to traffic control firmly, impartially and with respect for individual rights.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with superiors, departmental officials, employees of private contractors and the traveling public.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a professional and impartial manner.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must pass a background investigation including a personal history statement, fingerprinting, criminal records check, drug test, and polygraph examination.
  • Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
  • Must pass an extensive background review to include a criminal history check and follow up with previous employers and references in accordance with Port of Seattle Police Department background policies.
