The Traffic Studies Analyst performs paraprofessional traffic engineering work in the Traffic Studies Unit under the supervision of a Senior Transportation Engineer or Transportation Engineer. The work includes collecting and analyzing data, solving problems, writing reports, conducting field inspections of proposed signing and striping layouts, and working with the public to produce traffic studies. The analyst ensures signing and striping installations comply with City of Mesa standards and traffic engineering principles and practices. Assignments are broad in scope and require independent judgment, with frequent public contact concerning sensitive or controversial traffic issues. Depending on assignment, the analyst may prepare annual fatal, serious injury, pedestrian, bicycle, and overall City crash statistical reports; analyze and tally crash reports by location using information from local law enforcement agencies and the Arizona Crash Information System (ACIS); recommend traffic crash reduction measures; maintain and update traffic crash databases; and generate and interpret crash reports and trends. Other paraprofessional work may include designing signing and striping plans in compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), City standards, and policies. Other related work may be required.
