About The Position

The Social Studies teacher provides an educational atmosphere that encourages positive student learning and works in a dynamic setting with classroom teachers, administrators, curriculum specialists, and other staff to develop and implement school programs and goals. The role plans and delivers instruction suited to students’ developmental stages and individual learning needs, evaluates student progress, maintains classroom and student records, and builds constructive relationships with students, parents, and the community. Performance is evaluated under the provisions of the negotiated contract between the School Board of Orange County, Florida, and the Orange County Classroom Teachers Association.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Certification or eligibility for certification by the Florida State Department of Education to teach in Florida.
Knowledge of prescribed curriculum and child development.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
Knowledge of current research and basic technology.
Planning and organizational skills.
Ability to manage a classroom and supervise students.
Ability to analyze, diagnose, and evaluate student progress and programs.
Knowledge of varied learning styles.
Ability to use effective, positive interpersonal skills.
Commitment to a core set of beliefs about teaching, learning, and ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

Work with administrators and instructional teams to plan and implement hands-on programs and activities for students and the school.
Participate actively with other faculty and staff.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to plan, implement, and evaluate ongoing school-improvement programs.
Manage the classroom and supervise the proper care of equipment.
Participate in professional-growth activities to acquire new and improved skills and knowledge.
Analyze student progress and programs to provide instruction appropriate to students’ developmental stages.
Use varied instructional techniques to meet individual student needs.
Use technology and current research in instruction.
Evaluate student progress regularly.
Use classroom-management techniques that support an effective classroom climate.
Show sensitivity to students, parents, and the community, and promote student self-esteem.
Maintain professional relationships between the school and parents.
Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, or written communications.
Encourage parental involvement in school activities and connections between home and school.
Maintain required records, including grade books, attendance records, and student progress reports.
Help protect student and school property.
Keep current with job-appropriate technology used by OCPS and, with district support, attend training to maintain the required technology skill level.
Maintain timely and accurate information as part of job responsibilities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
