About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is seeking a determined and hardworking individual to serve as a Traffic Signal Technician II. The Transportation Operations Team is responsible for the operation, maintenance, installation, and emergency repair of traffic control devices. They maintain a fiber optic communication network providing services to the DOTI Information Technology Division and Denver Police Department. They also operate the Transportation Management Center and are responsible for signals, electronics repair, utility locates, sign installation, sign manufacturing, and pavement markings. This role is part of a team that are stewards of safety in a traffic-controlled work zone, requiring punctuality and a team setting. Commitment and being on time at work is essential.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Two (2) years of experience in traffic signal installation, construction, maintenance, or repair.
  • Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements by the end of probation.
  • Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English: Converse with the general public, Understand highway traffic signs and signals, Respond to official inquiries, Make entries on reports and records.

Nice To Haves

  • IMSA Traffic Signal Level 1 or Level 2 Certification (preferred, not required) and/or the CCD internal signal operations level 2 assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, construction, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems and devices, which includes wiring, conduit, poles, signal heads, controllers, switches, and vehicle detectors.
  • Inspect, remove, and repair signal control and auxiliary equipment such as traffic signal controllers and cabinets, vehicle and pedestrian head assemblies, and street lighting and circuitry devices and systems.
  • Adjust, repair, replace, and modify electric and mechanical components, controllers, relays, switches, fuses, timers, and other related parts and equipment.
  • Monitor and program traffic signal timing controllers and make necessary adjustments.
  • Investigate complaints and report defective traffic signals and associated equipment.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Operate vehicles and perform pre-trip inspection to ensure proper functioning.
