Under general supervision, performs skilled technical work involving the installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of traffic signal systems, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) infrastructure, and related electrical and electronic equipment throughout the city. This position supports the safe and efficient movement of vehicle and pedestrian traffic by ensuring the reliable operation of traffic signals, street lighting, network communications, and associated systems. Work includes monitoring and maintaining systems within the Traffic Management Center (TMC), performing field inspections and preventative maintenance, responding to emergency callouts, coordinating with other technicians, contractors, engineers, and utility providers, and maintaining accurate maintenance and operational records. The position requires the ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical, electronic, and network-related issues, utilize specialized testing and programming equipment, and work safely in traffic environments and at heights. The Traffic Signal Technician II works independently and as part of a team, exercises sound judgment in problem-solving, adheres to safety standards and procedures, and participates in a rotating on-call schedule to respond to after-hours and weekend emergencies. The role requires both fieldwork and limited office-based duties and is designated as a safety-sensitive position.
