The purpose of this class within the organization is to install, repair, maintain, and troubleshoot traffic control signals and signaling devices. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures. The Traffic Signal Specialist is responsible for striving to be efficient and effective at balancing and meeting the common needs and reasonable expectations of core constituents, and contributing towards the department's mission by continuously striving to meet expectations, strategic goals and objectives. Key functions include installing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting traffic control signals, signaling devices, and related electrical equipment in the field or in the shop. This also extends to HID street lights, exterior building lighting systems, bridge lighting systems (including navigational lights and programmable LED lighting), programmable electronically controlled school zone warning systems, and informational signs and banners. The role involves working with underground cabling and conduit, street lighting (pole/mast and light) and associated power distribution lines, pedestrian signals, school flashers, and electrical components at various City owned and/or operated buildings and parking lots. The specialist must also be available on-call for two-week periods, responding to issues like pole knock downs and traffic signal malfunctions at any time of the day or night.
