About The Position

This entry-level role installs, maintains, and repairs traffic signal systems by interpreting construction plans and working with signal poles, wiring, cabinets, and related equipment. The position responds to emergencies, performs preventative maintenance, and ensures all signal components - from wiring to mounted hardware - are safely and accurately installed. Work will be performed under close supervision. This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year. We're an accredited pay equity employer! Requirements

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED).
  • One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of General construction practices
  • Knowledge of General hand and power tools, construction equipment, and materials used in the construction of traffic signals
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Hazard practices
  • Knowledge of Accurate recordkeeping
  • Ability to Learn and adapt to the City of Colorado Springs' traffic construction practices
  • Ability to Work under supervision and occasionally independently
  • Ability to Communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to Safely operate the tools and equipment assigned
  • Ability to Adhere to the administrative and departmental policies and procedures
  • Ability to Work with, and be a productive member, of a team
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • A current and valid non-probationary driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
  • One year of full-time skilled maintenance and/or technical experience related to traffic signals
  • Traffic control experience
  • A basic knowledge of electricity
  • A current and valid non-probationary Colorado Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
  • Currently possess an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) and/or American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) certification

Responsibilities

  • Conduct traffic control and work zone activities to ensure safety on the worksite.
  • Maintain logs and records related to project activities
  • Work in traffic to complete job duties
  • Work daily at 20 to 35 feet off the ground and occasionally up to 65 feet.
  • Build and maintain traffic signals
  • Install underground and overhead wiring
  • Perform general construction labor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
