This entry-level role maintains and troubleshoots traffic signal and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) while receiving on-the-job training. It also performs firmware and software upgrades, responds to emergencies in the field, and supports the development of incident response protocols. This position requires availability for on-call rotation. This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year. We're an accredited pay equity employer! Your starting pay will be within the posted hiring range based on your years of experience and education. As a Traffic Signal Specialist I, you will: Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal cabinets, pedestrian indications, and school flasher systems. Assist with cabinet wiring, grounding, and component replacement including load switches, power supplies, Malfunction Management Units (MMUs), and relays. Perform basic troubleshooting of electrical and electronic signal components under supervision. Assist with installation and maintenance of vehicle detection systems including, video detection, and radar. Support installation of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) field devices such as closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras, dynamic message signs, field switches, and radios. Assist with pulling, labeling, and terminating fiber optic and copper communication cables. Perform preventative maintenance inspections and report deficiencies. Set up and remove traffic control devices in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards. Maintain basic records of work performed and materials used. Respond to emergency signal malfunctions as assigned. Other duties as assigned.
