About The Position
WBBM Newsradio is seeking a full-time Traffic Producer to produce precise, compelling traffic reports for anchors and newscasts. The role requires sharp newsroom instincts and the ability to deliver timely, accurate information under pressure while juggling multiple information sources and prioritizing the updates most relevant to the audience. The position is based on-site in Chicago and reports to the Brand Manager/News Director or another manager as designated.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of newsroom experience at a large- or major-market radio station.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and quickly synthesize information from multiple sources.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with sharp attention to detail and precision.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with traffic reporting tools, mapping software, and newsroom systems.
Responsibilities
- Gather, analyze, and interpret traffic data from DOT feeds, scanners, mapping software, and listener tips.
- Produce concise, accurate, and informative traffic copy for anchors and newscasts under deadline pressure.
- Monitor and update breaking traffic incidents, construction updates, and delays in real time.
- Coordinate with newsroom staff, anchors, and producers to ensure accurate coverage of major traffic events.
- Maintain relationships with external partners, including transportation officials and emergency responders, to stay informed about traffic developments.
- Contribute traffic updates to digital platforms and social media when needed.
