About The Position

The Universal Group, recognized as one of Canada's Best Managed companies in 2025, has an exciting opportunity for a Traffic Plan Designer within our Traffic Planning department! As a Traffic Plan Designer you will be responsible for creating comprehensive Traffic Plans, written traffic documents, and site layout plans that are tailored to client needs. This role involves collaboration with stakeholders, on-site assessments, and applying traffic engineering principles to design plans that prioritize safety, optimize traffic flow, and adhere to regulatory standards. Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication roles are critical for this position.

Requirements

  • Previous traffic planning experience, with knowledge of Alberta, Saskatchewan, & Manitoba regulations, is a huge asset
  • Traffic control experience and a valid TCP Ticket issued by BCCSA is an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Traffic Plans & written Traffic Accommodation Strategies.
  • Advanced computer skills with proficiency in Google Suite and other required computer applications.
  • Experience with Invarion/RapidPlan Software or AutoCAD is considered an asset.
  • Prior Traffic Management and/or customer service experience is preferred.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong sense of resourcefulness and curiosity, learning new regions' regulations & preferences.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities, and see projects through to completion.
  • Teamwork with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Draft site-specific traffic plans (Traffic Accommodation Plans, Traffic Accommodation Strategies, TMPs, and Category Documents) for clients in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Design and follow Traffic Planning procedures when building plans.
  • Produce, submit, and amend associated permits.
  • Engage with key stakeholders and represent UG professionally on matters relating to Traffic Plans.
  • Manage and follow through on large scale projects efficiently.
  • Assist the project team and wider business with city and municipality permit applications.
  • Proactively build and maintain contractor relationships.
  • Participate in meetings with stakeholders and subcontractors as needed.
  • Prepare data for internal and/or external reporting as needed as it related to Traffic Planning.
  • Provide traffic management advice and support to Operations.
  • Meet or exceed individual and department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
