About The Position

This position is accountable for supervising the Traffic Operation Section which handles signing, pavement marking, traffic control, emergency patrol, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Traffic Management Center, and motorist aide assistance throughout the district. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Traffic Operations Engineer. Requirements

• Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
• Five years of experience in civil engineering.

Responsibilities

• Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel.
• Advises the district Operations Engineer in matters related to policies, programs, and procedures concerning section field operations.
• Prepares, monitors, and authorizes operating budgets and available contracts for the section.
• Designs and ensures the accuracy of preliminary interstate and other freeway signing and striping plans.
• Coordinates field work with other sections within the bureau.
• Establishes and maintains marked detours districtwide.
• Establishes policies and procedures to be used by emergency patrol personnel and the Traffic Management Center, as well as reviews the operation and effectiveness of Intelligent Transportation Systems.
• Reviews the operation and effectiveness of the temporary traffic control utilized throughout District 8.
• Provides expertise relative to traffic control, signing and pavement markings, plus Intelligent Transportation Systems to municipalities within the district.
• Maintains responsibility for the district’s Intelligent Transportation Systems and Traffic Management Center.
• Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
• Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
