About The Position

AECOM is seeking a part-time Traffic Monitoring Specialist to support projects in the Sanford, FL area. This role operates within a 24/7 emergency operations/dispatch environment, requiring availability for overnight, weekend, and holiday hours. The position involves repetitive tasks performed at a desk that can be adjusted for sitting or standing. This is a public safety function that demands focus and prioritization, with the ability to work in a fast-paced and intense environment. The specialist works under limited supervision, performing complex technical tasks at a client site in Sanford, FL. Responsibilities include answering calls from external partners and stakeholders, utilizing FDOT's ITS devices (CCTV cameras and speed/volume detectors) and the Advanced Traffic Management System (SunGuide) to monitor and manage traffic, and providing driver feedback via overhead signs and FL511. The role also involves dispatching Road Rangers and other FDOT incident management resources, documenting all traffic incident activity for historical records, and potentially performing data entry. Routine monitoring of ITS equipment and reporting technical issues, tracking repair status, and learning signal timing principles and notification procedures are also key aspects of the role. The specialist will participate in continuous improvement of operational activities and may assist with public information, mapping, performance measures, signal cabinet/field work, and contract management. Adherence to statewide Standard Operating Guidelines and local Standard Operating Procedures is critical.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 emergency operations/dispatch environment, including overnight, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • Ability to focus and prioritize in a public safety function.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform relatively complex technical work under limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage freeway and arterial traffic using FDOT's ITS devices (CCTV cameras and speed/volume detectors) and Advanced Traffic Management System (SunGuide).
  • Provide driver feedback via overhead signs and FL511.
  • Dispatch Road Rangers and other FDOT incident management resources using telephones and push-to-talk systems.
  • Document, in detail, activity relating to all traffic incidents to create historical documentation.
  • Perform data entry functions beyond event documentation.
  • Routinely monitor ITS equipment (CCTV cameras and speed/volume detectors) and report any technical issues that need repair.
  • Monitor repair status and notify if repairs are exceeding allowed time.
  • Learn signal timing principles and notification procedures for local maintaining agencies.
  • Participate in a continual improvement process of all operational activities.
  • Assist with various other roles such as public information, mapping, performance measures, signal cabinet/field work, contract management.
  • Follow statewide Standard Operating Guidelines and local Standard Operating Procedures to precision.
