About The Position

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport plays a vital role connecting people and places in South Australia by managing roads, marine and public transport networks across the State, and builds and maintains the state-owned infrastructure that enables the delivery of essential and important government services to our community. As a Traffic Management Centre (TMC) Operator, you’ll be at the heart of South Australia’s traffic operations, helping ensure our roads remain safe, efficient and reliable 24 hours a day. In this fast-paced and rewarding role, you will monitor advanced traffic control and reporting systems, enabling rapid responses to incidents and minimising disruptions for road users. You’ll work closely with emergency services and operational teams to coordinate responses, verify incident information, support asset requests and provide real-time traffic updates to media outlets and the public. Your decisions and actions will directly contribute to safer journeys and smoother traffic flow across the state’s road network.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and maintain confidentiality.
  • The ability to remain composed under pressure and manage high workloads effectively.
  • Initiative and sound judgement, with the ability to prioritise tasks and follow established procedures.
  • Confidence working with technology and multiple IT systems in a highly operational environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and solution-focused mindset.
  • Resilience, adaptability and a genuine commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • A current driver’s licence is essential.
  • A National Police Check (NPC) is required prior to employment and must be renewed every three years.
  • A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to employment and must be renewed every five years before expiry.
