About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Traffic Engineer with a strong interest in traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems, and traffic operations and design to join their Southern California team. This role will support the growing traffic and ITS group in developing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Traffic System Upgrades, Integrated Corridor Management (ICM), and Active Traffic Management (ATM) policies. Responsibilities include utilizing data to identify operational and safety needs, preparing design plans, and CAV corridor planning. The role also involves routine traffic engineering tasks such as data collection and analysis, volume development, future year traffic projections, traffic analysis, alternative design development, and study documentation. Additionally, candidates will engage in traffic design work including traffic signal design, permanent signing, pavement markings, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) design. A Southern California location is preferred, with the flexibility to work remotely or in the office, though in-person client meetings may be required.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering or related field from an accredited university
  • U.S. Driver’s License
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Caltrans design standards, ITS design, Traffic Operations Studies, and Safety Studies.
  • Basic understanding of the use of traffic analysis tools (e.g., VISSIM, CORSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, and HCS).
  • Experience/ familiarity with AutoCAD/ Microstation, Synchro
  • Basic understanding of the application of traffic operations principles including ITE, MUTCD, AASHTO, and state DOT requirements, policies, manuals and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the traffic engineering group in preparing engineering reports, studies, and analyses in areas including traffic operations, safety, travel demand modeling, and transportation planning projects.
  • Conduct traffic operational analysis using microscopic simulation software such as VISSIM, Synchro, SimTraffic.
  • Analyze traffic signal operation on arterials and networks, specify data collection, develop new signal timing parameters, input traffic signal plans, and design/analyze traffic surveys to evaluate signal timing effectiveness.
  • Prepare traffic engineering plans for signal designs, signing and markings designs, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) designs.
  • Perform operational analysis using microscopic simulation for intersections, corridors, and interchange traffic.
  • Assist in developing ICM and ATM operations and maintenance policies, procedures, and manuals.
