About The Position

ATCS is hiring a Traffic Engineering Intern for its 2027 Summer Internship Program. The internship will run from May/June through August 2027 and support the Traffic Engineering & Planning team in the Herndon, Virginia office. Interns will gain hands-on experience, develop technical skills, and contribute to transportation projects while working alongside engineers and other professionals.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Interest in traffic engineering, transportation planning, or transportation design.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.

Nice To Haves

• Previous coursework related to traffic engineering or transportation.
• Previous internship or related experience.
• Exposure to MicroStation, AutoCAD, or other engineering/design software.

Responsibilities

• Support engineers with traffic engineering and transportation planning projects.
• Assist with the collection, organization, and analysis of traffic and project data.
• Support the preparation of engineering plans, studies, reports, and other project documents.
• Use engineering and design software to assist with project deliverables.
• Collaborate with engineers and other team members to complete project tasks.
• Participate in project meetings and gain exposure to the day-to-day work of a traffic engineering team.
• Assist with other technical and administrative tasks as needed.
