About The Position

ATCS is seeking enthusiastic and motivated students for its 2027 Summer Internship Program, which runs from May or June through August 2027. This internship supports the Traffic Engineering & Planning team in ATCS’s Herndon, Virginia office. The intern will work alongside engineers and other professionals on transportation projects, gaining hands-on experience, developing technical skills, and learning about a career in traffic engineering.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Interest in traffic engineering, transportation planning, or transportation design.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.

Nice To Haves

• Previous coursework related to traffic engineering or transportation.
• Previous internship or related experience.
• Exposure to MicroStation, AutoCAD, or other engineering/design software.

Responsibilities

• Support engineers with traffic engineering and transportation planning projects.
• Assist with the collection, organization, and analysis of traffic and project data.
• Support the preparation of engineering plans, studies, reports, and other project documents.
• Use engineering and design software to assist with project deliverables.
• Collaborate with engineers and other team members to complete project tasks.
• Participate in project meetings and gain exposure to the day-to-day work of a traffic engineering team.
• Assist with other technical and administrative tasks as needed.
