About The Position

Parsons’ Atlanta office is seeking a qualified Traffic Engineering Intern to join our multidisciplinary team. This role offers hands-on experience on traffic engineering applications across a diverse portfolio of transport infrastructure projects, varying in both scale and complexity.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program in Civil Engineering (or a related field) at an accredited college or university.
Completed at least 1 year of undergraduate coursework within the degree program.

Nice To Haves

Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, or GIS for mapping.
Familiarity with basic traffic engineering concepts (e.g. volume, speed, delay) and manuals such as Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Highway Safety Manual (HSM) and MUTCD
Familiarity with tools like Synchro, SimTraffic, Vissim, or Highway Capacity Software (HCS).

Responsibilities

Process turning movement counts, speed data, and travel time runs and evaluate roadway and intersection performance using tools like Synchro/SimTraffic.
Review historical crash reports to identify high-collision patterns (hot spots), calculate crash rates, and evaluate potential countermeasure treatments.
Create, edit, and organize GIS layers and CAD drawings (e.g., ArcGIS, MicroStation, AutoCAD) to map roadway networks, and develop signage/striping plans.
Build and maintain structured spreadsheets (e.g., capacity analyses, signal warrant checks, sight distance calculations).
Coordinate daily task deliverables with senior project engineers, participate in progress meetings, and conduct on-site field visits.
Draft technical memoranda, methodology sections, Level of Service tables, and summary figures summarizing traffic findings and proposed engineering recommendations.
