BETA Group, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Traffic Engineering Designer to join our dynamic and growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, planners, scientists, and technical professionals on a wide range of impactful infrastructure projects. This individual will be an integral member of the design team, working on the development of transportation infrastructure projects such as traffic operations and analysis, intersection and signal design, traffic control, signage and pavement markings, roadway capacity and safety, and pedestrian/bicycle facilities. This role bridges technical drafting, traffic analysis, design development, and project documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or related field
  • 0 to 2 years of related transportation engineering experience in intersection & signal design, traffic analysis, highway design, ADA compliance, pedestrian & bicycle path design, and roadway/intersection construction practices
  • Proficient with AutoCAD Civil3D , Synchro, and VISSIM
  • Experience with MUTCD, AASHTO, & DOT design requirements
  • Proficient in the use of current technology (i.e., tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc.)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong technical aptitude and an eagerness to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
  • Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the analysis and design of traffic systems, including signalized and unsignalized intersection operations, traffic signal timing and phasing, capacity analysis, traffic impact studies, traffic data/crash analysis, and safety improvements
  • Utilize AutoCAD or MicroStation software in the preparation of construction plans and specifications in accordance with federal, state (e.g., MassDOT), and local requirements
  • Perform geometric design, quantity takeoffs, and assist with pavement markings, traffic control, and ADA compliance elements
  • Support preparation of technical reports, permit applications, and design calculations
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, including transportation planners, traffic engineers, environmental scientists, and GIS team members
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards such as AASHTO, MUTCD, and local DOT guidelines.
  • Participate in field investigations, site visits, and data collection as needed
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and assist with quality control reviews
