Traffic Engineer - Entry Level
About The Position
Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP (WRA) is seeking an entry-level Civil Engineer to join their Traffic Engineering Group in Fairfax, VA. This role involves working with traffic engineering analysis or design teams, performing operational analyses, identifying technical solutions, preparing reports and presentations, and creating contract documents for traffic signals, signing, markings, maintenance of traffic, and ITS devices. The position offers the opportunity to work on challenging and innovative projects within the mid-Atlantic region and nationally, ranging from small intersection improvements to complex corridor projects and multimodal transportation plans. The role may also involve working at client sites.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Relevant internship/job experience related to transportation engineering.
- 0-4 years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally/written at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Experience working with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others.
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Nice To Haves
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform operational analyses.
- Identify and develop creative technical solutions.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations.
- Prepare contract documents for traffic signals, signing, markings, maintenance of traffic, and ITS devices.
- Design traffic signals, signing, markings, roadway/parking lot lighting, work zone traffic control, and ITS devices.
- Conduct traffic safety/operations studies.
- Develop or apply Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, and VISUM models.
- Work on projects ranging from small-scale intersection improvements to complex interchange and corridor projects, as well as innovative multimodal transportation plans and parking studies.
