About The Position
Leading U.S. engineering consulting firm is seeking a Traffic Engineer for their Chicago office! This role involves preparing and overseeing various traffic studies and designs, managing projects, and mentoring junior staff. The position also supports business development and client relations.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in transportation or traffic engineering
- 5+ years of relevant traffic engineering experience
- Professional Engineer registration
- Proficient in Highway Capacity Software (HCS), SYNCHRO / SimTraffic, including the ability to guide staff and review technical work
- Familiar with traffic engineering guidelines, including: DOT, ITE, FHWA, AASHTO, and MUTCD publications for preparation of traffic studies
- Strong written and verbal communication, organization and interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with public and private-sector clients, agency staff, peers, management, and project stakeholders
- Experience supporting proposal preparation, client development, and business development efforts is preferred
- Successful applicants must be authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship.
Nice To Haves
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) and/or Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification preferred
- Project management experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple complex assignments and establish priorities
- Experience with VISSIM, IHSDM and AutoCAD preferred
Responsibilities
- Prepare/oversee traffic impact analysis studies, transportation planning studies, traffic signal design and timings, microsimulation and modeling services, roundabout feasibility studies, parking studies, and safety studies for public and private-sector clients
- Manage traffic engineering projects (scope development, budgeting, scheduling, coordination, project delivery, and financial performance)
- Mentor/train junior staff (provide day-to-day guidance and quality control reviews)
- Support proposal preparation, client development, and strategic business development pursuits
