Traffic Engineer
About The Position
Pennoni Associates is seeking an Associate Traffic Engineer for its Tampa or Clearwater, Florida office. The role supports traffic engineering work on highway and bridge projects, including traffic studies, highway occupancy permits, signing and pavement marking design, traffic control and construction planning, traffic management plans, traffic impact studies, ADA and curb ramp design, and FDOT access management, TSM&O, and Complete Streets initiatives. The position also contributes to project cost estimates and specifications, provides technical guidance and mentorship to technical staff, and helps develop client relationships with public and private clients. The role involves use of traffic-related software and work with FDOT and other public-sector clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- 4–8 years of work experience.
- Computer skills with Microsoft Suite, MicroStation, Highway Capacity Software, and Synchro/SimTraffic.
- Experience with traffic-related software packages such as Synchro, HCM, VISSIM, and SIDRA.
- Experience with FDOT and similar public-sector clients, such as counties, cities, or townships.
Nice To Haves
- Master's degree.
- Experience with InRoads and AutoCAD.
- Construction consultation and utility coordination experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license; PTOE is desirable.
Responsibilities
- Assist with complex traffic engineering tasks alongside other staff on highway and bridge projects.
- Lead and develop traffic studies and highway occupancy permits.
- Prepare signing and pavement marking designs.
- Assist with developing Maintenance of Traffic schemes, construction phasing, and traffic control plans.
- Assist with developing Transportation Management Plans (TMPs) and Traffic Impact Studies (TIS).
- Perform ADA design and curb ramp design.
- Support FDOT Access Management, TSM&O, and Complete Streets initiatives.
- Assist with developing project cost estimates and specifications.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to technical staff, including CADD staff.
- Develop client relationships with public and private clients.
