About The Position

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a Traffic Design Engineer for its Washington DC Traffic Team. This role involves engineering design, analysis, and studies, applying general engineering principles and practices to manage assignments. The Washington DC office is experiencing rapid growth and is involved in significant projects in the region. The selected candidate will collaborate with experienced project managers and engineers on diverse, multimodal transportation projects. Immigration sponsorship is not available, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general engineering principles and practices
  • Ability to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments
  • Experience with traffic signal, signing, pavement marking, lighting, and ITS design plans
  • Experience preparing maintenance of traffic (MOT), transportation management plans (TMP), and detour plans
  • Experience developing construction cost estimates and specifications
  • Experience performing traffic safety and traffic analysis studies
  • Experience performing traffic analysis using software such as Synchro
  • Experience conducting multimodal studies including bus, pedestrian, and bicycle studies
  • Ability to analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan project
  • Ability to perform field reviews of traffic operations
  • Ability to coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering tasks in the traffic engineering field through application of relevant design criteria, standards, and processes
  • Prepare traffic signal, signing, pavement marking, lighting, and ITS design plans
  • Prepare maintenance of traffic (MOT), transportation management plans (TMP), and detour plans for design projects
  • Develop construction cost estimates and specifications
  • Perform traffic safety and traffic analysis studies
  • Perform traffic analysis using software such as Synchro
  • Conduct multimodal studies including bus, pedestrian, and bicycle studies
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan project
  • Perform field reviews of traffic operations
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
