About The Position

The Traffic Data Collector performs roadway and traffic data collection in the field and reviews and processes data for office reporting. The work includes collecting traffic information using specialized equipment and technology, documenting field conditions, and preparing or processing collected data. The role requires a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle and may involve moderate to heavy lifting.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must have a personal vehicle.
• Ability to maintain required certifications.
• Ability to use a hammer and pneumatic fastening hand tools.
• Basic understanding of road maps and map orientation.
• Competence with Excel spreadsheets.
• Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
• Pre-employment drug screening and background check are conditions of employment; motor vehicle checks may be required based on the position.

Responsibilities

• Collect roadway and traffic data using specific equipment and technology.
• Conduct manual live traffic counts or record video of vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles at intersections.
• Install rubber traffic tubes across roadways to count vehicles.
• Install temporary cameras at intersections.
• Take field notes and photographs of current conditions, and collect other field data as necessary.
• Review and process collected data for office reporting.
