Overview The Traffic Coordinator is responsible for coordinating domestic and international inbound and outbound shipments to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of domestic and international transportation and specialized documentation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the National Motor Freight Classification guidelines and requirements.
  • Understanding of Incoterms 2020.
  • Must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail and customer requirements.
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with strong follow-through. Must have the ability to research information as needed.
  • Thorough knowledge of office routines and general clerical procedures is required.
  • Able to operate 10-key calculator by touch with accuracy, along with general math skills to calculations and/computer keyboard speed 50+ w.p.m., along with demonstrated ability to proofread effectively. Able to create spreadsheets/database software reports.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to train others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and ability to provide clear documentation.
  • Four or five years of related experience.
  • Experience in rate negotiations, and preparation of detailed rate analyses.
  • Experience working with international freight forwarders, knowledge of air and ocean transportation, container loading, courier services, rates, quotations, truck shipments, and claim process.

  • Haz-Mat certified within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Qualifies, onboards, and manages performance of transportation carriers, while ensuring compliance with company standards, insurance requirements, and service expectations.
  • Develops strong relationships with freight forwarders, shippers, and other outside shipping-related vendors to more effectively negotiate the best possible combination of rates and services.
  • Manages freight cost by negotiating rates with freight forwarders, completing formal RFPs, and optimizing transportation lanes for inbound and outbound shipments globally.
  • Serves as an escalation point for Export Specialist and Logistic Clerk on non-routing shipping issues. Helps resolve issues involving lost, damaged, delayed, or misrouted cargo.
  • Completes regular audit and coding of freight invoices and works with carriers and various internal stakeholders to resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Investigates logistics service issues and implements corrective actions internally or with freight carriers.
  • Administers freight damage claims and secure refunds from carriers.
  • Maintains accurate NMFC classification of products to ensure compliance and cost efficiency.
  • Maintains accurate customer outbound/inbound routing guides for customer and supplier shipping lanes.
  • Assists purchasing on the logistics of transporting purchased parts to support assembly. Maintains corporate in-bound routing guide to assist buyers in determining preferred carriers and most cost-effective rates.
  • Collaborates with carriers to execute process changes and implements department process changes through training and updates to standard work instructions.
