About The Position

Spartan Safety Services is seeking a Traffic Controller for an entry-level position in St. Petersburg. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety of construction sites by managing traffic and pedestrian flow. As a Traffic Controller, you will be responsible for creating safe work zones by setting up cones, barriers, and signs to guide traffic and protect construction workers. Continuous awareness of both construction and traffic activity is essential, as is strict adherence to all safety regulations. The position involves setting up, maintaining, and removing temporary work zones, and requires the ability to work in various weather conditions. While commuting to and from job sites is necessary, it is considered non-compensable time.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
  • Must have a smartphone with internet access for timekeeping and communication to receive work schedule
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be able to work in all weather conditions and tolerate varying climates of heat, cold, and rain
  • Pass a drug screen prior to employment and maintain a drug free status
  • Be able to stand throughout your entire shift, hand and arm movement is required
  • The position does not allow for frequent breaks
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Be physically capable of performing all flagging duties
  • Have reliable transportation to and from job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, maintain, and remove temporary work zones including warning signs, traffic cones, and rumble strips according to ATSSA and DOT regulations
  • Load and unload work zone equipment to and from the company vehicle at the job site
  • Complete and submit all necessary paperwork in a timely manner before leaving the last job site
  • Wear and maintain proper PPE in accordance with Wright specific policy
  • Ensure that company vehicles are kept clean and orderly and inform management of any safety concerns or vehicle problems
  • Review start time and address of job site or meeting location (if applicable) as established and sent by office scheduler via company app
  • Read and understand Wright safety manual and employee handbook
  • Reports directly to a Field Supervisor
  • Other job duties as assigned
