About The Position

This position performs technical duties in the installation and maintenance of traffic signs, pavement markings, and roadway striping. Reviews daily work orders; prepares vehicles and equipment for daily operation. Installs, repairs, and maintains traffic control signs, roadway striping and pavement markings. Maintains sign and pavement marking inventory; and striping inventory; advises supervisor regarding reorders. Operates welder, cutting torch, forklift, thermoplastic heaters, and grinder; operates power driver to prepare the ground for traffic signs. Installs and programs traffic counters necessary for the collection of traffic volume, vehicle classification, and speed counts. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control signs, pavement markings, and roadway striping.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn the Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), GDOT Signing and Marking Design Guidelines, and GDOT Construction Standards and Details.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of directing traffic.
  • Skill in the operation of such tools as manual and power sign post drivers, pavement marking striping and eradication machine, and aerial lift equipment.
  • Skill in problem solving and decision making.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
