About The Position

This position involves supervising and participating with a crew engaged in the operation of street painting equipment. The role is responsible for painting traffic control lines and markings on street surfaces, as well as the fabrication of traffic control signs. Duties include skilled tasks such as brush or spray painting, silk-screening of sign blanks, using sign design software for fabrication, and operating street striping equipment. The employee will also participate with a crew in the operation of street painting equipment, performing layout, markings, and painting of centerlines, lane lines, stop lines, crosswalks, and various other traffic control markings.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.).
  • Must have one year of experience in one of the following areas: Traffic Control street painting in accordance with manual on uniform traffic control devices, Traffic Control mechanic assigned to a sign or paint crew, or Sign design and fabrication.
  • OR Must have 3 years of experience as a trades worker performing construction, carpentry, or tool shop work.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter.
  • Within 150 days of appointment must obtain and maintain a valid Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License (C.D.L.), including the qualification to operate a vehicle with air brakes and any other endorsements required by the State of Ohio.
  • Out of state residents must have equivalent licenses from their state of residence within the prescribed 150 days of appointment.
  • Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates, experience, training, or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement, in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process.
  • A background investigation is required prior to employment.
  • All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.
  • Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a drug screen.
  • Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening.
  • Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment.

  • Promotional Qualifications: Must be a full-time permanent or part-time permanent employee in pay grade 117 (Wage) or below, pay grade 25 (Clerical) or below, or equivalent, and been employed for 6 consecutive months by the City of Dayton in a classified Civil Service position.
