About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Traffic and ITS Engineering Intern to be based in Pittsburgh, PA. This position is expected to start May 2027. Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering with the intent to continue enrollment after the internship and must have completed at least 2 years of study.
  • Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions.
  • Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Intern should have successfully completed at least their first year of qualified study in civil engineering or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Microstation and/or AutoCAD softwares
  • 1 year of experience in transportation engineering, with an emphasis on traffic design
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities

  • Builds essential, hands on skills in design, planning, traffic analysis
  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Provide support to the traffic engineering groups on highway design and analysis projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based, collaborative environment.
