About The Position

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Pastoral Services and be responsible for playing the piano or electric piano or organ or other lead instrument as accompaniment for the singing of hymns, choruses, and spiritual songs. This includes performing prelude, postlude, offertory, and background music for meditation and prayers that enhances the atmosphere of worship for the particular congregation. The contractor will also accompany choir and/or worship team rehearsals and perform site preparation and restoration. The contractor must arrive 30 minutes prior to services to prepare the facility for music performances. The role involves playing for 52 services annually, traditional rehearsals, and up to five special services per year.

Requirements

• Provide a resume and documentation to substantiate personal qualifications.
• Demonstrate ability to play the piano or keyboard.
• Demonstrate ability to play to the congregants any selections in the Armed Forces Hymnal and other hymnals and/or song books designated by the POC.
• Be familiar with the faith traditions and practices of the supported congregation(s).
• Possess the ability to comprehend and communicate effectively in English, both orally and writing.
• Have personal transportation to fulfill contract requirements.
• Present a neat and well-groomed appearance appropriate for services.
• Behave professionally modeling the highest standards of moral and personal integrity.
• Wear appropriate attire.
• Refrain from obscene language.
• Refrain from using or being under the influence of drugs, or alcohol.
• Not engage in any activities that may adversely affect the chapel environment, including arguing, complaining, criticism of others, gossip, or rumors.

Responsibilities

• Play the piano or electric piano or organ or other lead instrument as accompaniment for the singing of hymns, choruses, and spiritual songs.
• Perform prelude, postlude, offertory, and background music for meditation and prayers.
• Play a prelude 15 minutes prior to the designated start time.
• Play a postlude of at least 5 minutes at the conclusion of the Service.
• Accompany choir and/or worship team rehearsals on scheduled rehearsal dates.
• Perform site preparation (set-up) and restoration (stowing musical equipment or other activities necessary to return facility to pre-service configuration).
• Arrive 30 minutes prior to the commencement of worship services to prepare the facility for music performances.
• Perform Special Services up to five times per year.
