About The Position

This is a vacant full-time position at the Windsor Bus Garage, effective immediately. Terms and conditions of employment, including wages, are in accordance with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Collective Agreement Local 3876. The Mechanic will report to the Transportation Supervisor (Fleet) and will be responsible for completing major bus maintenance checks and repairs to diesel engines, transmissions, drive trains, suspension systems, brakes, exhaust systems, electrical and auxiliary equipment, etc.

Requirements

  • Motor Vehicle Repair (Truck and Transport) Mechanic License required
  • A Class 2B license with air brake endorsement required
  • Strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Three years’ experience in trade preferred

Responsibilities

  • Identifying repair and or replacement needs
  • Performing repairs and preventive maintenance within the Laws of the Province of Nova Scotia
  • Experience in repairs and operations of school buses including, but not limited to, repair of diesel engines, airbrakes, power train, transmissions, fuel systems, cooling systems, steering electrical, suspension systems, welding tasks, as well as preventative maintenance tasks including oil changes and grease jobs
  • Experience with engine, transmission, brakes and diagnostic computer software required
  • Broad knowledge of safety procedures and practices required
  • Ensuring completion of projects in accordance with trade standards
  • Keep a clean safe work area
