About The Position

The Facilities Tradesperson is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overall upkeep of TRCA-owned assets, including grounds, residential properties, office buildings, and related infrastructure. This role performs routine and preventative maintenance activities such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical repairs, and general building system upkeep. The position conducts regular facility inspections to identify deficiencies, safety hazards, and maintenance needs, ensuring all assets remain safe, clean, compliant, and fully operational. The Facilities Tradesperson also responds to after hours on-call service requests and emergency repairs in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Completion of college diploma
  • Member of the Ontario College of Trades (Tradesperson Class at minimum)
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's license
  • Drinking Water Operators Certification
  • 2+ years of experience related to trades, building maintenance, ground maintenance or a related field
  • Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise communication in both non-emergency and emergency situations
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Demonstrates responsively to internal and external customer requests and needs
  • Ability to use critical thinking to evaluate problems, gather information, understand causes, and identify best possible solutions
  • Excellent understanding of the Ontario Building Code
  • General knowledge and ability in one or more of the following areas: construction, general carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, masonry, mechanics, and/or automotive repair
  • Ability to safely handle and operate power tools, and small and large machinery (e.g., mowers, grass trimmers), as well as work vehicles, such as snowploughs, tractors, etc.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and execute maintenance projects and repairs in a timely manner
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, Citywide Asset Management Program, and SharePoint)
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify problems in a timely manner, seeking the appropriate level of support to solve issues
  • Anticipates future internal and external customer needs and incorporates them into goal setting, products, and services

Responsibilities

  • Performs regularly scheduled maintenance activities, where required prioritizes tasks with Supervisor
  • Performs preventative maintenance and completes repairs as needed
  • Safely operates fleet vehicles, utility vehicles, heavy machinery, small and large equipment, hand tools and power tools
  • Coordinates and leads site visits with contractors/consultants for specialized maintenance work and routine contract services in compliance with all TRCA policies and legislation
  • Carries out all work in a safe manner, using all required PPE, health & safety equipment and adhering to best practices and standard operating procedures
  • Performs regular inspections, maintaining emergency systems, equipment and repairs
  • Maintains Small Drinking Water Certifications Systems, including testing, inspection and maintenance of equipment
  • Works closely with the Supervisor, Facilities providing updates on tenant matters regarding repairs and/or tenant inquiries
  • Responds to tenant emergencies, including after hours maintenance calls on a rotational basis using TRCA fleet vehicle
  • Identifies designated substances (i.e., asbestos, mold, lead) and takes appropriate corrective actions
