About The Position

The County of Volusia is seeking a Trades Worker Supervisor (Plumbing) for the Facility Management Department. This position is located in Daytona Beach, Florida, and will be responsible for hands-on supervisory work directing a group of journeyman trades workers and limited skilled personnel. The role involves supervisory duties including recommendations for hire, evaluation, coaching, and discipline. The supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of the plumbing department, verify employee timesheets for accuracy, and assist with the development and oversight of the plumbing maintenance budget. Excellent customer service is essential to maintain Volusia County's customer service standards.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or G.E.D., and three (3) years of experience at the journeyman level in plumbing.
  • A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License at time of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License within thirty days of hire.
  • Must be willing to respond to emergency service calls outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of one particular building trade.
  • Knowledge of the qualities and uses of various building materials.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Ability to work from sketches, plans, and blueprints.
  • Ability to lay out jobs.
  • Ability to supervise other journeyman workers and unskilled workers.
  • Ability to obtain material sources and quotes.
  • Ability to schedule and coordinate work.
  • Ability to train unskilled workers in various trades.
  • Ability to use tools, materials, and equipment common to the trade.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing to groups and individuals.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to read and comprehend work orders, safety instructions, maps, blueprints, mechanical drawings, instructions, procedures, memos.
  • Ability to perform shop math.
  • Ability to write simple sentences relaying information, data and details to others.

Responsibilities

  • Creates work plans, estimates material/time requirements for specific jobs, creates 2-week schedules, creates/completes work orders and monitors work productivity.
  • Oversees and manages specific area of maintenance and/or job(s) of a large scale nature.
  • Oversees and manages plumbing trades workers within Facility Management.
  • Completes field work on plumbing jobs/PM’s county-wide.
  • Works with other supervisors in Facility Management on jobs.
  • Works with Facility leadership or solo to develop job(s) and/or maintenance (PM’s) schedules.
  • Reviews and approves Kronos time cards on a daily basis.
  • Assists with hiring and training of new employees.
  • Completes incident reports as required.
  • Contacts contractors for quotes on future jobs and repairs.
  • Maintains records of work progress.
  • Supervises and oversees work of assigned employees.
  • Coordinates major remodeling or rebuilding jobs with various trades units to ensure efficiency and time saving.
  • Responds to emergency service calls outside of normal working hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • May perform work found in the lower level trades worker classifications.
  • May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
