Trades Tech IV - Assistant Director
About The Position
Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), is seeking a full-time Trades Tech IV Assistant Director. This role involves highly advanced supervision, training, and expert analysis of maintenance and construction systems. The position oversees maintenance and construction for state facilities and equipment, including installation, care, and repair. Responsibilities include supervising, inspecting, scheduling, assigning, prioritizing, and participating in general maintenance, electrical, HVAC, construction, and plumbing work. This encompasses preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance and repairs. The Assistant Director will coordinate work assignments with other supervisors for efficient resource use and provide technical expertise.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in building and grounds work
- Valid Operator’s License
- Master Tradesman License
- Experience in computer, purchasing procedures, and inventory control programs
Nice To Haves
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Trade or some college
- Supervisory training and/or experience
- Refrigerant Recovery Certification
- Bilingual
- Veteran or veteran spouse
Responsibilities
- Ensure the requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation
- Staff receive frequent, constructive feedback, including interim evaluations as appropriate
- Recognize and report corrective maintenance (CM) to the work order control center and perform corrective maintenance in accordance with the work order control system – TMS
- Supervise or assist contractor or inspectors in performing equipment installations, repairs or inspections
- Supervise and assist with snow and ice removal, disasters, disaster exercises or special events as directed by the supervisor
- Prepare reports or estimates of work hours, materials and resources
- Encourage vendors to obtain SWaM certification
- Utilize TMS to create and maintain maintenance repair parts inventory
- Purchase parts as needed to maintain inventory
