About The Position

Western State Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), is seeking a full-time Trades Tech III General Maintenance candidate. This role is responsible for providing maintenance services including installation, repair, and preventive maintenance on buildings, equipment, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and utility systems, as well as grounds and snow removal for Western State Hospital (WSH) and the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA). The position may also involve transport services for goods and personnel as needed. WSH is a historic psychiatric facility located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley, offering a modern clinical setting and a therapeutic environment for patients, supported by highly qualified staff.

Requirements

  • Experience and/or trades school/vocational school training in building maintenance, electrical, plumbing, HVAC.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's license with good driving record.

  • Door and/or locksmith experience.
  • Trades License Card or ability to obtain one.
  • Bilingual.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on buildings, grounds, and equipment in accordance with the work order control system – TMS.
  • Recognize and report corrective maintenance (CM) to the work order control center and perform corrective maintenance in accordance with the work order control system – TMS.
  • Recognize and report safety deficiencies and perform corrective measures as required, and document the work in accordance with the work order control system – TMS.
  • Document work on the prescribed forms to include materials and hours expended on work orders.
  • Ensure client and staff furnishings, equipment, documents, etc., are moved with care using appropriate hand and powered equipment to include hand trucks, fork trucks, lift gate trucks, etc.
  • Assist contractor or inspectors in performing equipment installations, repairs or inspections.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal.
  • Maintain a set schedule to ensure a minimum of a 40-hour work week and fulfill all work requirements (fill out leave slips/insure coverage).
  • Provide “on-call” coverage when scheduled on rotational basis.
