About The Position

BC Ferries is seeking a highly motivated, safety focused Trades Supervisor – Uplands to support, supervise and coordinate activities comprising a variety of trades primarily engaged in the repair and preventative maintenance of buildings and grounds as well as other assets and special projects as required. You will schedule labour resources ensuring safe work practices and efficiency in meeting established work schedules and deadlines. You will coordinate with Managers, Project Leaders, Planners and Supervisors to organize and ensure appropriate resource allocation and communication of work plans and information throughout work groups. You will supervise the activities of tradespersons, helpers, laborers, contractors and other employees engaged in inspection and repair activities as required, to ensure company standards are consistently met. In this role, you will evaluate the performance of employees and contracted work groups, providing coaching and feedback to ensure safe, efficient and effective work results. You will also identify staff needs and take appropriate initial steps to address issues, making decisions consistent with BCF Collective Agreement provisions. You are a leader driven to achieve outstanding results, while ensuring a culture of safety, quality and efficiency. You are a self-starter who promotes teamwork, open communications, and positive interactions, while providing coaching, mentoring and motivation in support of individual performance objectives.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of Industry standards, WCB regulations and safe work practices.
  • Possess a Red Seal in one of the trades directly supervised (carpenter, plumber, electrician or painter).
  • Sufficient supervisory experience to meet the requirements of this position.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a journeyman in one of the trades directly supervised.
  • Possess a valid BC Driver’s License.
