About The Position

The General Trades Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing the daily activities of construction projects, focusing on general trades such as metal studs, rough carpentry, and finished carpentry. They play a critical role in ensuring project success by maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards. This role involves frequent contact with subcontractors, trades workers, superintendents, estimators, project managers, customers, and members of the public. The supervisor will conduct and communicate pre-construction meetings, drive quality and efficiency, manage tool inventory, resolve job site issues, and oversee employee relations including hiring, training, and disciplinary actions. They will also create weekly work plans, monitor general trades scope of work, and ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Communication with the team regarding materials and equipment is essential, as is leading and supervising skilled tradespeople and laborers, assigning tasks, and monitoring performance. Enforcing safety protocols, conducting safety meetings, investigating incidents, and performing quality inspections are key responsibilities. Accurate record-keeping of work progress, materials, and labor hours is required, along with regular project status reporting. The supervisor must address on-site issues, collaborate with project managers, and maintain effective communication with all stakeholders. Cost control through efficient resource management and identifying cost-saving opportunities are also important. Providing guidance and training to workers to improve skills and staying updated with industry trends are expected. The role may also involve filling in as a supervisor on General Contractor projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and communicate pre-construction meetings covering plans, schedules, and safety issues.
  • Drive all aspects of quality, efficiency, cleanliness & consistency (including crew size and makeup) throughout all carpentry projects by leveraging Carpentry Foreman.
  • Ensure execution of Carpentry Foreman project goals
  • Manage tool inventory & cut lists
  • Resolve job site issues and solve problems efficiently and effectively
  • Manage and assist with employee relations with respect to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, vacation schedules, etc. of field employees.
  • Oversee foreman reviews of field employees
